Sample script for inviting and giving your neighbors a heads up
How might I find a local musician?
Ask around your family, friends, and neighbors - they don’t have to be professional!
See if your local music store, record shop, or bar has contacts or suggestions for local musicians.
Search message boards, reddit pages or local bar venues for recent featured musicians.
What issue should I feature? I can’t decide!
Think about what you care about and what has made you angry, excited, sad, or anxious about America’s future. If you care about it, it’s likely many others do too! Make sure to present the issue in a way that most people can get behind and centered on values of kindness, freedom and common sense. A few ideas include:
Supporting farmers to keep growing their crops and feeding the country and world
Standing with national parks staff that help our summer vacations go smoothly
Keeping our promise to veterans and support their healthcare and housing
Ensuring health care is accessible for all, not cutting Medicaid
How might I welcome and introduce the gathering?
Good question! Here are some sample talking points for an event in Bozeman focused on keeping the outdoors accessible and public:
Welcome to the Story Street Porch Concert. I’m Kristen and I’ve lived here in Bozeman for ten years.
We’ve invited our neighbors and friends and hopefully some soon-to-be friends.
There is so much going on in the world where the focus is on where we don’t agree, so we wanted to host a celebration on something that we do agree on.
Here in Bozeman, that is our beautiful outdoors.
We are lucky to be able to roam so many places, enjoying places that host our favorite pastimes – hiking, hunting, fishing. The outdoors are where we make some of our favorite memories and, for our businesses, where we make our bottom line.
And we want our public lands – our outdoors to stay that way – accessible to all.
I don’t ever introduce myself as saying my name and my political party and I hope I never do.
I am an outdoor enthusiast and I think I am surrounded by my people here.
Let’s find ways to work together so we can keep celebrating and enjoying the places we love most and not fall for those issues that are trying to divide us.
Now on to the celebrating!
